NATO calls on Armenia, Azerbaijan to immediately cease fire in Nagorno-Karabakh

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on Sunday called on both Azerbaijan and Armenia to immediately cease fire in ‘Karabakh’ and to engage in negotiations to reach a peaceful solution.

The NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai, said in a statement, “NATO expresses its deep concern over reports of renewed large-scale military hostilities along the line of contact in the Nagorno Karabakh region.”

“The two sides [Azerbaijan and Armenia] must immediately cease hostilities, which have already caused civilian casualties,” Appathurai added, stressing that “there is no military solution to this conflict.”

He said that the parties should resume negotiations for a peaceful solution, and that NATO also supports the efforts of the Minsk Group of the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe.
