The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) has on Sunday threatened to pull out of Saudi-sponsored Riyadh negotiations with the Hadi puppet government, in protest against Hadi’s new terms on forming a new government.
This was reported by Yemen News portal on Sunday, based on sources loyal to the STC.
The development comes as Hadi included two officials known as al-Maisari and Al-Jabwani as ministers in the new line-up government.
Saudi Arabia officially has been informed of the STC’s refusal to accept the presence of both al-Maisari and al-Jabwani.
According to the sources, the STC delegation rejected Hadi’s monopoly on ninister portfolios in the government formation.
The Riyadh negotiations were expected to see a breakthrough last week, but recent developments indicate that the negotiations have collapsed.
The STC delegation suspended its participation in the negotiations several times before returning to the negotiations recently due to Saudi pressure.
It deserves mention that, despite it being a significant point of contention between the STC and Hadi, the Saudi-backed puppet “government” in exile has next to no actual political power in Yemen itself, and is mostly limited to passing laws under pressure of and in favour of the Saudi-led invaders and occupation forces.
