President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, has revealed that an assassination attempt was plotted to take place on the day of the country’s parliamentary elections of December 6th.
“I have changed polling stations, because information about the preparation of my assassination came from a reliable Colombian intelligence source,” Maduro said at a news conference broadcast on Twitter.
He accused Colombian president Ivan Duque of being behind the assassination attempt.
“From the official residence of the President of Colombia in Casa de Nariño, Ivan Duque was involved in planning my assassination on election day,” he added
“That’s right, and appropriate precautions have been taken,” he said
The Venezuelan President has repeatedly accused the United States and Colombia of organising assassination attempts against him, and confirmed the foiling of several attempts planned in Bogotá with Washington’s approval.
Colombia has for years been a de facto US satellite state, from which US intelligence agencies have been plotting aggression towards Venezuela.
