International campaign to lift blockade on Sana’a holds conference

The international campaign to lift the siege of Sana’a Airport has, in cooperation with the Yemeni community in Germany, organised a seminar discussing the disastrous effects of the closure of Sana’a International Airport by the Saudi-led coalition on Saturday.

During the seminar, which was attended by Yemen’s ambassador to the United Nations, Um Kulthoum Baalawi, the representative of the Yemeni community in Germany, Yahya Al-Sharfi, and the director of Sana’a International Airport, Khaled Al-Shayef, presented a number of working papers via video conference.

The working papers examined the disastrous effects of the closure of Sana’a International Airport and official statistics resulting from the closure of the airport, as well as the illegality of its closure as a civilian facility.

They also confirmed that the closure of Sana’a International Airport is contrary to international laws.

Participants in the seminar discussed the impact of the aggression and the closure of Sana’a airport on the more than 23 million Yemenis benefiting from airport services, including patients, wounded people and students; as well as discussing the significant lack of performance of the health system as a result of the denial of access for medicines coming in through the airport.

They condemned the silence of the United Nations and international organisations towards the unjust blockade on Yemen, considering this as a de facto sign of support for the invaders.
