Dubai reports alarming increase in numbers of female drug addicts

An official at the International Protection Center of the General Department for Drug Control in Dubai Police said on Tuesday that there has been an increase in the number of females addicted to drugs recently.

“There has been an increase in the number of female addicts recently as a result of the great change in life in recent years, in terms of openness,” Colonel Abdullah Al-Khayyat said.

A large number of cases have been reported of girls traveling with their friends outside the country without supervision or accompanying one of the mature parents, he explained.

Col. Al-Khayyat indicated that the rapid spread of the Internet has provided a kind of confusion in society through the spread of drug sales via the Internet.

Abdullah Al-Ansari, Director of the Department of Community Research, Awareness, and Public Relations at the Erada Center for Treatment and Rehabilitation in Dubai said that among the cases received by the center was the case of a girl who was addicted to alcohol, who reported that she was getting alcoholic substances from the Internet, and that the package was delivered to her home.

He expressed his surprise how the girl entered the house something like this without the slightest supervision from the parents, noting that the age group targeted by drug dealers and promoters ranges from 18 to 35 years.

A number of drug addicts die as a result of overdoses, Al-Ansari added.
