The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Tuesday revealed that more than 80 percent of the population in Yemen needs some form of assistance.
“Of these, more than 1.2 million pregnant and lactating women were identified with acute malnutrition”, the fund explained in a report.
The report mentioned that more than three million Yemenis are in need of assistance in 2020, indicating that the needs of women and girls in humanitarian emergencies are increasing in the country that has been witnessing war for six years.
Since the beginning of the war on Yemen in 2015, the situations in the country have steadily collapsed, leading to internal displacement, food insecurity and cholera outbreaks.
The report also pointed out that the UNFPA’s humanitarian response for the year 2020 suffers from a lack of funding in tens of millions of dollars, confirming that half of the health care facilities in Yemen are still suspended.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations organizations always ask donors for funding, and when they receive the funds, the Yemenis only get crumbs, as confirmed by many media reports.
