Six French troops wounded in car bomb attack in Mali

Six French soldiers were injured after being targeted by a car bomb in Mali, the French armed forces command said Friday evening.

A suicide car bomb attack injured six French soldiers in the southern region of Gourma, BFM TV reported, citing the Ministry of the Armed Forces.

The attacker struck forces of the French Barkhane force, who were conducting a joint operation with Malian army soldiers.

Last week, the French Ministry announced the death of two soldiers in a bomb blast targeting a military vehicle of the French military force in Mali.

In August 2014, France launched a military operation in the African Sahel region known as Operation Barkhane.

Some 4,000 French troops are deployed in five Sahel countries: Mali, Chad, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Niger.
