Iraqi forces thwart Daesh terror campaign plan in Nineveh province

The Iraqi army announced on Saturday that it had thwarted plans of terrorist organisation Daesh (ISIS) to launch attacks in Nineveh province, in the north of the country.

This came in a statement issued by the National Security Agency (linked to the Prime Minister’s Office), which Anadolu Agency cited.

The agency said that it “managed to arrest seven ISIS terrorists in Mosul city who were planning to carry out terrorist operations in the province.”

The arrested confessed to carrying out armed attacks against the security forces during the liberation operations in 2017, and they were referred to the judiciary, according to the statement.

Iraq has intensified its campaigns to pursue the remnants of the Daesh organisation over the past few days, following a double suicide bombing on January 21 that targeted a popular market in the center of Baghdad, killing 32 people and wounding 110 others.
