Al-Qaeda appoints new leader of operations in Ma’rib

Activists have on Wednesday circulated a document issued by al-Qaeda, which includes the appointment of an Egyptian as “emir” of the organisation in Ma’rib province.

The letter, attributed to the emir of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Khaled bin Omar Batarfi, states that the terrorist Abu Al-Hassan Al-Sulaymani, an Egyptian national, has been appointed as leader of the organisation’s militants in the battle of Ma’rib.

This comes after the killing of terrorist, Mohammad Salem Al-Tiyabi, who was the leader of al-Qaeda elements fighting in the ranks of the Saudi-led coalition forces. Al-Tiyabi was killed by the Yemeni army and Popular Committees last Saturday on the Al-Alam front, north of Ma’rib.
