Yemeni Foreign Ministry dismisses propaganda about Red Cross meeting with Iranian ambassador

An official at the Yemeni Foreign Ministry has mocked the circulation of false information about a meeting between the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yemen with the Iranian ambassador in Sana’a at one of the ceremony halls of the Ministry in the capital Sana’a, Yemeni news agency SABA reported.

In the statement, the official indicated what was deliberately circulated reflects “ignorance, [moral] bankruptcy, and lack of understanding of the nature of the work of embassies and international organisations.”

He pointed out that holding meetings with heads of diplomatic missions and their counterparts or with the heads and representatives of international organisations offices is “an integral part of the activities of heads of missions.”

The official also pointed out the meeting came upon an official request made by the ICRC, and was held at the Ministry so that the place and time were specified for security and precautionary reasons.

He explained the Ministry has to provide logistical support to facilitate the missions’ work in Yemen, as is done in all states of the world.

He said those who circulate false news should know that the Iranian embassy has been previously targeted by enemies, in a flagrant violation of all international norms and covenants.

The official indicated that the ICRC, which deals with the prisoner exchange discussions ad well as with displaced and missing persons, requested the meeting be arranged in a secure place.

“Since the beginning of the aggression on Yemen, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has hosted official Yemeni or international meetings in public and under the supervision of specialists at the Ministry, as an official headquarters of the Yemeni diplomacy to communicate with the world,” the official made clear.

The Foreign Affairs official concluded that any official Yemeni or international meetings are held under the shadow of the Yemeni flag, which symbolises Yemen and its people as an independent and sovereign state. In contrast, “the whole world knows that the hotel government, which is a partner of the aggression, is managed by the ambassador of the Saudi aggression state,” the statement concluded.
