US State Department confirms that it considers West Bank as illegally occupied territory

The US Department of State has confirmed that President Joe Biden’s administration once again considers the West Bank “occupied territory” by Israel, a day after the department issued a report in which it declined to use the term.

“It is a historical fact that Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights after the 1967 war,” Ned Price, Department Spokesperson told reporters.

“The report already uses the term occupation in the context of the current status of the West Bank,” Price said.

“This has been the old position of the previous governments, both Democrat and Republican, for several decades,” he added

Until Trump came to power in 2017, the US Department of State, in its annual report on the human rights situation in the world, devoted a chapter to “Israel and the Occupied Territories,” but in 2018 that title changed to “Israel, the West Bank and Gaza,” the same phrase used in Tuesday’s report.

Under Donalr Trump, the United States government went far further in its official support of the Zionist entity than ever before, leading to fears that Washington would move to officially support the Zionist occupation of the West Bank.
