Oman reports “imminent breakthrough” in Yemen peace negotiations is at hand

The Sultanate of Oman has on Sunday said that there is an “imminent breakthrough” in the war in Yemen, which has been besieged for over six years.

Yemen News Portal reported the news, citing the Oman Daily newspaper’s editorial.

This comes on the eve of a new international and regional movement to push for an end to the Saudi-led war, culminating in an Omani delegation visiting Sana’a for the first time since the war began in March 2015.

The Oman Daily said in its Sunday editorial that “the coming days will bring many surprises that could end the suffering of the Yemeni people, who have been the victims of regional conflicts.”

The humanitarian issue, including allowing the entry of humanitarian aid through the port of Hodeidah, is at the top of the Omani and regional movement’s objectives, the paper said, adding that the international community bears responsibility for the humanitarian burden.

The report also stressed the need to end the war on Yemen, alluding to a contact that took place between the Omani Foreign Minister and his US counterpart regarding the issue recently.
