Two Turkish occupation soldiers killed in Syria

Two Turkish soldiers were killed and two were injured in an attack on a military vehicle in northern Syria, Turkey’s Defence Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The attack against an armoured vehicle occurred in the Euphrates Shield area, a zone spanning about 2,000 square kilometers taken under Turkish control in 2017, according to a statement by the Defence Ministry

Attacks have increased recently in northern Syria, and Ankara often accuses Kurdish armed units of trying to destabilise the region.

Turkey is conducting military operations against Kurdish factions in north Syria, which it considers an extension of the PKK, that the Ankara classifies as a terrorist organisation.

The Turkish military presence in Syria, much like the US presence for that matter, is illegal under international law and has been repeatedly denounced by the Syrian government.
