Eritrean naval forces have detained around 95 Yemeni fishermen during the past week from Yemen territorial waters in the Red Sea.
This was reported by Yemen Press Agency, based on informed sources.
According to the sources, Eritrean naval patrols detained three boats belonging to fishermen from al-Khokha district near the Yemeni island of Hanish, with 95 fishermen on board over the past week.
The sources explained that the detention of the fishermen had not been met with any action by the Hadi puppet government or its Coast Guard forces in the occupied areas of Mocha and al-Khokha.
The Eritrean attack came a week after a fisherman was killed and two others injured when the Eritrean navy targeted a fishing boat off Hanish Island in Yemeni waters.
The arrests of fishermen and the confiscation of their boats by the Eritrean navy take place in light of the joint UAE-backed forces stationed on Hanish island.
Conflict between Eritrea and Yemen about the status of the Hanish archipelago was officially resolved by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in 1998, ruling that Hanish Island itself and most of the archipelago belongs rightfully to the Republic of Yemen.
