The Afghan army forces foiled an attack by the Takfiri Taliban group in Jarm district of the northern province of Badakhshan, the army said in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, the Taliban militants launched a massive offensive from different directions early on Monday to overrun Jarm district but their attempts were foiled, Xinhua reported.
Over 17 Taliban militants dead and over a dozen of others injured in the counter-offensive backed by military planes, The statement read.
The statement however did not disclose the casualties of the security forces or civilians. The statement said the troops would continue to chase the insurgents in Jarm and its vicinity to bring peace and security there.
