Saudi forces planning to build military base in natural reserve

Saudi occupation forces have begun new arrangements for the establishment of a military base in the most important nature reserve Yemen’s province of Mahrah, on the border with Oman.

This was reported by Yemen News Portal, based on tribal sources on Monday.

The sources said Saudi Arabia is pushing military mechanisms and has already begun to set up military barracks in the Hof reserve, which is the most important grazing land in the tribal community of the province.

The militarisation of the reserve is meant to cut another source of income for the Mahrah community, which is mostly dependent on the grazing of cows and camels.

This will also add new burdens to the residents of the province after the militarization of the Yemeni coast and land ports bordering Oman.

The Saudi moves come amid reports of pressure on Hadi, who is expected to be removed from office soon, to sign agreements, including military facilities, a giving the Saudis a “legal” long-term presence in Mahrah, Socotra and the west coast of Yemen.
