Yemeni Foreign Minister speaks with Iranian official on peace talks

Yemen’s Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf has on Sunday discussed with Senior Assistant for Political Affairs to the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Asghar Khaji, on aspects of cooperation between Yemen and Iran.

The meeting, held via closed circuit television, touched on the efforts and endeavors of the United Nations to reach a sustainable political settlement in Yemen.

Sharaf made it clear that the main step for the political settlement is to stop the aggression and lift the blockade, followed by political and field steps to create a reality of actual peace between all parties to the current ongoing conflict.

The Foreign Minister affirmed that Sana’a is still extending its hand to the just and honourable peace that preserves the security, stability, safety and sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen.

In turn, the Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister confirmed hist country’s support for peace efforts, and its principled position rejecting any military action.

Khajji stressed that Tehran is always ready to support all efforts that lead to peace in Yemen, including the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen.

The meeting dealt with developments in the region, and emphasis on the two countries’ keenness to provide all forms of support for the Palestinian cause, as well as their rejection of all forms of normalisation of relations with the Zionist entity.
