The Islah Party has announced on Monday that it is establishing an air base overlooking the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in Lahj province, north of Aden.
Rakan al-Jabihi, press secretary for the leader of the so-called “Taiz axis” Islah party, confirmed that an “air base” had been established in Jebel Erf, a subsidiary of what he called the “Al-Bahah axis.”
He noted that the commander of the Tor al-Bahah Axis and commander of the 4th Brigade, Abu Bakr al-Jabboli, visited the air base and a number of rehabilitation camp sites, which extend over the mountain range linking Taiz and Lahj provinces.
In the context of his speech, al-Jabboli directed the military leadership to raise combat readiness, in all locations adjacent to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias, in Tor al-Bahah and Alahkum areas.
The Islah militants have sent nine military brigades to surround the area of Tor al-Bahah from all sides, which is located just 80 km from the UAE-occupied city of Aden.
The establishment of an air base in Tor al-Bahah district, overlooking the west coast, came with the support of Turkey, and is considered by many to be a threat to international navigation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
