The Yemeni community in the United States has on Monday carried out the largest community-wide march in the country.
This comes on the eve of the announcement of Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden’s victory over incumbent President Donald Trump. Biden had previously voiced his position of wanting to end direct US support to the Saudi-led war against Yemen.
Activists posted pictures of thousands of Yemenis gathered near the White House, waving American and Yemeni flags. They chanted slogans calling for an end to the war and a change in immigration policy.
Yemen was among the countries from which Trump banned travel to the United States under the so-called Muslim Ban, and took measures that have caused suffering to many members of the Yemeni community.
The Trump administration has been intensively supporting the war led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and Donald Trump has even vetoed a bipartisan Congressional bill demanding an end to US support to Riyadh in this conflict.
The protesters rallying in Washington DC demand Joe Biden to keep his promise and bring into effect an end to direct US support to the invasion.
