Rockets launched at US targets in Baghdads’s Green Zone

Several rockets were fired towards the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, housing the US embassy and other key structures of the occupation forces, a security source in the said.

The Iraqi army said, in a statement, that four rockets landed inside Baghdad’s Green Zone on Tuesday evening.

The rockets were fired from an area in New Baghdad, the statement said.

Journalists in central Baghdad reportedly heard loud explosions as rockets were intercepted by the C-RAM air defence system installed by the US earlier this year.

Journalists and activists posted videos on Twitter documenting the moment of the attack.

US troops invaded Iraq in 2003, leaving in 2011 yet returning in 2014 under the guise of fighting gains Daesh.

The US-led invasion of Iraq has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, with estimated ranging to over a million people killed.
