A young man was reported tortured to death inside one of prisons run by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupation in the southern port city of Aden, local sources said on Thursday
According to the sources, Najib Ahmed Abadal, a resident of al-Ma’raiq neighborhood in Sheikh Osman district, was killed by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias, local sources said.
Abadal was tortured in a prison run by the commander of the so-called 8th sector of the Security Belt mercenary force, named Karam al-Mashreqi.
Earlier this month, the Mothers of Abductees Association accused the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council of abducting 37 of their children and placing them in detention.
“Thirty-seven abductees have been held in the prisons of the Emirati-backed militias since 2016, and their families have heard nothing from them for the past five years,” the rights group said, in a statement issued in front of the Arab Coalition headquarters in Buriqah, Aden province.
The STC militias have been controlling the city of Aden since August 2019, following violent clashes that ended with the expulsion of Saudi-backed Hadi loyalist forces.
