Official spokesman for Ansarullah and head of the negotiating delegation, Mohammed Abdusalam, has commented on the US plans to designate Yemen’s Ansarullah revolutionary movement as a “foreign terrorist” organisation” (FTO).
“The US position is nothing new on a practical level, as they have committed the most heinous crimes, economic and humanitarian sanctions against the Yemeni people, committed military intervention and comprehensive support for the aggression against us,” Abdulsalam said in a statement to the media.
“If there is no serious review, this situation will force us to deal likewise with the Americans in many subjects,” he added.
“We believe that the Trump administration is in a state of obvious confusion. It takes decisions and positions for the benefit of multiple actors in overtime,” he stated.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Monday that the State Department will notify Congress of its intention to designate Ansarullah as a foreign terrorist organisation. The decision also intends to designate three of Ansarullah’s leaders, being Sayyid Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, Abd al-Khaliq Badreddin al-Houthi, and Abdullah Yahya al Hakim, as “Specially Designated Global Terrorists.”
The United States government failed to provide any explanation for the move, nor gave any examples of terrorist activities Ansarullah allegedly has engaged in.
