The UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths has said on Thursday in his briefing to the Security Council that negotiations in Yemen are “frustrating and can not continue indefinitely.”
“I still believe that it is right to strive towards realising the proposals included in the joint declaration,” Griffiths said
Griffiths noted that it is important for all parties to focus on the main goal, which is to resume an inclusive political process that ends the war comprehensively.
“I’m extremely concerned about the impact of the decision by the US to designate Ansarullah as a foreign terrorist group. We fear that there will be a chilling effect on efforts to bring the parties together.”
“The path to peace in Yemen was never easy. I believe that it’s now a great deal more difficult than a month ago. But there is a way out. Even after all the tragedies that Yemenis have suffered, peace is possible when there is the will to make it happen,” he concluded.
