A tribal sheikh was killed on Thursday by unknown gunmen in Hadhramaut province, eastern Yemen, a local source reported.
The source said that unknown persons opened fire on Sheikh Mesfer bin Awn Al-Saya’ri, while he was passing through Jahim area in Al-Abr district, which is under the control of a military leader loyal to the Saudi-led coalition Hashem Al-Ahmar.
Sheikh Al-Saya’ri was one of the most prominent sheikhs who rejected the expansion of the Islah Party in Hadhramaut, according to the source.
The assassination coincided with a similar incident in Shabwah, where a recruit of the so-called Shabwah Elite Forces was killed by unknown gunmen.
