Aidarous al-Zubaidi, head of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) said that the Council would normalise relations with Israel if South Yemen would be established as an independent state.
The move came during an interview with news channel Russia Today on Tuesday.
“We support normalisation with Israel, arguing that this us a principle of peace in the region and a basis for peace in the distant future,” al-Zubaidi added.
“If we have a sovereign state, we can have a normalisation of ties with Israel. When we have our own capital and have independence and sovereignty, then we have the right to establish relations with Israel, this is our sovereign right,” he said.
In the interview, he affirmed that STC “will not give up its forces.”
The STC supported the normalisation agreement between the UAE and the Israeli entity in 2020 as a “courageous decision”.
