US president Joe Biden announces end of support to Saudi “offensive operations” in Yemen

US President Joe Biden said on Thursday night that “the war on Yemen must stop”, announcing that all US support for “offensive operations participating in the aggression on Yemen” has stopped.

“We are working to end the war on Yemen, and I have asked my team for the Middle East to work for a ceasefire,” Biden added.

“We will continue to support and assist Saudi Arabia in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the security of its people,” he stressed. It is unclear what exactly Biden means by supporting Saudi so-called “defensive” operations, however.

For his part, Democrat Senator Bernie Sanders said that “Yemen needs food and medicine, not bombs and siege.”

Sanders indicated that the announcement of ending US military support for the Saudi war on Yemen is “a tribute to the work of many activists,” affirming that this step would help in resolving this conflict and providing aid for the rebuilding of Yemen
