US government reportedly set to cancel Trump’s designation of Ansarullah as “foreign terrorist organisation”

A US State Department official said on Friday evening, that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken informed Congress of his intention to cancel the designation of Ansarullah as a “foreign terrorist organisation.”

“After a comprehensive review, we can confirm that the foreign minister intends to cancel the classification of Ansarullah as a foreign terrorist organization and as a global terrorist organisation,” the official said, according to Reuters.

“Our move is entirely due to the humanitarian consequences of this classification taken by the previous administration at the last moment, which the United Nations and humanitarian organisations have made clear since would precipitate the worst humanitarian crisis in the world,” the official explained .

On January 22, the US State Department said that it would review the decision to classify “Ansarullah” as a “terrorist group” as soon as possible.

“The Department of State is working to finalize the review of the classification of the Houthis [Western term for Ansarullah] as terrorists, as soon as possible,” the US State Department spokesman said.
