Two Turkish soldiers killed in clashes with PKK in northern Iraq

Two Turkish soldiers were killed and four others injured on Thursday, after clashes with PKK forces broke out in the Karah region of northern Iraq, the Turkish Defence Ministry said .

As a result of the clashes in the “Eagle’s Paw 2” area, where the Turkish army is carrying out a military operation within Iraqi territory, two soldiers were killed and four wounded, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said the wounded were taken to hospital, noting that specific targets in the area were bombed with airstrikes.

The PKK, which Ankara classifies as a terrorist organisation, has suffered heavy losses, the statement added.

The Turkish operations on Iraqi soil are taking place without permission from Baghdad, and are as such considered illegal military maneuvers.
