Kurdish organisation PKK releases statement denying Turkish claims on recent clashes in northern Iraq

The Popular Defence Forces (PDF), the military wing of Kurdish insurgent organisation PKK, has issued on Friday evening, a statement stating that the Turkish Defence Ministry is working to “distort the facts and deceive public opinion about the Qara attack.”

According to the Rudaw Media Network, the Popular Defence Forces said that more than 30 Turkish soldiers were killed in the clashes.

On Wednesday, Turkey announced the launch of a new military operation against PKK bases in northern Iraq.

It confirmed that the new operation “Eagle Claw 2” was launched last night in the Iraqi region of Qara, and that the elements of the PKK are suffering “significant losses.”

Turkey has conducted a number of military operations against the PKK in northern Iraq, despite protests from the Iraqi government in Baghdad. Considering that Iraq never allowed Turkish forces to enter Iraqi territory, the Turkish maneuvers constitute a breach of international law.
