Al-Jazeera maps steady advance of Yemeni forces towards Ma’rib

Al-Jazeera’s correspondent in Yemen, Ahmed Al-Shalfi, on Tuesday published a map of the clashes raging at the entrances to Ma’rib city, revealing how far away the Yemeni army and popular committees are from the city.

The clashes are taking place 20 km from Ma’rib airport in the center of the city, he said.

The fighting is only 24 km(24 miles) from camp Kawfal, which has been controlled by the army and committees on the Western Front and the government compound in the centre of the city.

In the same context, two senior commanders loyla to the Saudi-led coalition forces were killed on Sunday in the battles breaking out in the northern and western fronts of the city of Ma’rib.

According to sources on Monday, the Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Asoudi, the commander of the 203 Infantry Brigade and Manna Al-Omari, the commander of the 62nd Brigade, were killed in the fierce confrontations with the Yemeni army in Sirwah district and Al-Zour area.

Moreover, the sources pointed out that several of coalition’s forces were killed including a Saudi officer with the rank of Lieutenant.

The first lieutenant in the Saudi army, Fahd Saleh al-Enezi was killed in the missile bombing that targeted headquarter of the military third region in Ma’rib city.

For past few days, the coalition forces lost many military commanders in the battles taking part in the outskirts of the city of Ma’rib due to the military advance made by the army towards the city.

The Yemeni forces have been fighting fierce battles for days as part of the battle for control of Ma’rib amid expectations that the city will fall within days.
