Two US warships have arrived on the Sudanese coast to enter Port Sudan this week, for the first time in 25 years.
Al-Sudani website quoted an informed source saying “The visit is the first for the US Navy in 25 years to the Sudanese ports, which is a precursor to a new era characterised by military and political cooperation between Washington and Khartoum.”
The source revealed the arrival of a US military attaché to Port Sudan on Tuesday, to determine the final arrangements for the arrival of the two navy pieces; the first is a reconnaissance ship scheduled to arrive at Port Sudan on Wednesday morning, and the second is a destroyer that will arrive next Monday, and is expected to be received by the US Chargé d’Affairs to Sudan and a number of officials.
“The visit comes within the framework of strengthening and sustaining the message of peace and friendship and preserving the security of transport and maritime lines in the Red Sea Basin,” the source explained.
