The Ain al-Asad military base, which is a base used by US forces in Anbar province in western Iraq, was hit by 11 missiles in Wednesday, an Iraqi security source said.
The source, which did not reveal its identity, added: “It has not been confirmed so far if there are any casualties among American or Iraqi soldiers.”
No party has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which is expected to increase tension between Baghdad and Washington on the one hand, and between Iran and the United States on the other hand.
The American forces did not announce the extent of losses in their ranks or of the damage caused to the base.
In January 2020, Iran launched 16 missiles, from three locations, 11 of which landed at Ain Al-Asad base, in response to the assassination of the Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, by an American raid near Baghdad airport.
