The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced in a statement that its forces have foiled a plot to hijack a plane on Thursday night, Mehr News Agency reported.
According to the IRGC statement, the plot of hijacking an Iran Air Fokker-100 aircraft with flight number 334, that had left Ahvaz Airport at 22:10 local time on Thursday for Mashhad, was foiled thanks to the vigilance of the security forces.
The plane made an emergency landing at Isfahan Airport, and the culprit was arrested, the report added.
According to initial confessions, the perpetrator was seeking to land the plane in one of the Persian Gulf countries.
No passenger was hurt during the operation, and they left Isfahan for Mashad with another flight, IRGC added.
The statement further noted that investigations are underway on the case.
