The Yemeni General Authority for the Regulation of Land Transport Affairs has blamed the Saudi regime for the humanitarian implications of the continued detention of thousands of Yemeni expatriates at the land port of al-Wadea, already for over 20 days.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Authority noted the suffering of Yemeni expatriates who want to return to their homeland and visit their families as a result of the Saudi authorities’ ban since March 24, 2021, under the pretext that they own SUVs.
The statement explained that the Yemenis stuck in the port of al-Wadea are living in a tragic situation, especially during the month of Ramadan in light of the indifference of the Saudi regime.
It pointed out that among those stuck are approximately 1,500 expatriates with their families, and a total of around 2,000 cars.
The statement confirmed that Yemeni expatriates were abused and beaten with batons and electricity sticks by Saudi riot police when a number of expatriates carried out a vigil on April 5, 2021 to denounce the arbitrary measures.
The statement called on the United Nations, humanitarian and human rights organisations, humanitarian coordinators and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to put pressure on the Saudi regime to end the suffering of those trapped in al-Wadea and allow them to return to their home.
