Saudi court sentences two more clerics to five years imprisonment

Saudi Arabia’s specialised criminal court has sentenced two Saudi defendants to five years in prison on flimsy pretexts and charges.

According to the Prisoners of Conscience account, the court sentenced Sheikh Walid Al-Huwairini to five years in prison.

It explained that the verdict came as a result of Al-Huwairini’s relations, with the so-called Al-Saruri political movement within the Kingdom.

In addition, the Criminal Court also sentenced the cleric Sheikh Mohammed Musa al-Sharif to five years in prison.

The most prominent charge against the prisoners was the lack of support for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s directions for the country.

In mid-2017, Saudi authorities launched a large-scale arrest campaign against preachers and religious scholars, including several orthodox Sunni clerics.
