Over 2 million Yemeni children suffering from acute malnutrition

About 2.2 million Yemeni children are suffering from acute malnutrition and need urgent care. About 462,000 of them even suffer from severe acute malnutrition.

This is a substantial increase of  than 200 percent compared to 2014.

The highest rates of acute malnutrition are among the children of Hodeidah, Saada, Taiz, Hajjah and Lahij provinces.

While Saada province records the highest rates of child stunting in the world, eight out of every 10 children in the province suffer from chronic malnutrition, in a proportion that the world has never seen before.

Yemen was facing difficulties represented by widespread poverty, food insecurity and a scarcity of health services even before the escalation of the conflict in the country in March 2015, and the Yemeni health system today is on the verge of collapse due to the Saudi invasion.

Medical care in Yemen is limited to less than a third of its population, according to statistics.
