Somali army forces have on Sunday begin a deployment in the capital, Mogadishu, in refusal to extend the mandate of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo for two more years, according to local media.
The Al-Asimah and Jawhar news websites reported that, since the morning, Mogadishu has been witnessing movements of army units that withdrew from their military barracks in the Middle Shabelle region, in opposition to the extension of Farmaajo’s term.
This comes at a time when former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud said that soldiers attacked his residence, pointing the finger of blame at President Farmaajo as responsible.
