The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, has arrived at the capital Sana’a on Sunday.
Griffiths will meet officials in Sana’a in order to discuss new proposals on lifting the Saudi-led coalition blockade, opening Sana’a airport, lifting restrictions on the imports of goods and fuel to Hodeidah port, and the imposing of a ceasefire as a beginning to the start of new peace negotiations.
Martin Griffiths made these proposals during his meeting with Yemen’s chief negotiator Mohamed Abdulsalam in Muscat, Oman, according to the sources.
During the meeting, they discussed the acceleration of the humanitarian agreement in the light of the catastrophic humanitarian situation suffered by Yemeni people due to the Saudi-led coalition’s unjust blockade, the detention of oil derivatives ships and the blockade of airports.
The acceleration of the humanitarian agreement is necessary in order to pave the way for broader discussions on a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive political settlement.
