The fighting between the Yemeni army, backed by the Popular Committees, and the Saudi-led coalition forces and al-Qaeda elements on the other, has escalated in the northern Ma’rib province, local sources told Yemen Press Agency on Saturday.
According to local sources, the Yemeni forces were able to counter a large-scale attack carried out by coalition and al-Qaeda forces towards several military positions north of Ma’rib city.
The sources pointed out that coalition forces and al-Qaeda launched a failed attack backed by airstrikes towards the positions of Sana’a forces in the area of Al-Dishoush and Al-Atif, and another attack towards the west of Ragwan directorate.
Moreover, the sounds of clashes were reported as being heard in several neighbourhoods of Ma’rib city, including al-Rawda, south of the city’s government complex.
After heavy fighting, the army forces and Committees were able to carry out a successful attack on coalition forces in the Al-Atif and Al-Dishoush areas north of Ma’rib, the sources said.
The same sources confirmed that coalition warplanes carried out seven raids on the areas of clashes in Ragwan district.
