UAE-backed mercenary commander heavily wounded in assassination attempt

A senior military commander in the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias has been heavily injured on Thursday, after assassination attempt carried out by unidentified gunmen west of Aden province, local sources said.

According to the local sources, unknown gunmen fired at the so-called Deputy Director of Moral Guidance in the Support Brigades, General Abdul-Hakim al-Kubi, after he left his home in Salaheddine area, al-Buraiqeh District.

The sources added that al-Kubi was shot directly in the head and was taken to hospital, while the gunmen fled.

The incident came a day after eight people were killed and 13 injured, including civilians, in violent clashes between various factions of the STC in Sheikh Othman district.
