Angry demonstrators have on Friday closed down all roads leading to Al-Tawahi area in the port city of Aden, southern Yemen.
Dozens of protesters set fire to tires at the entrances to Al-Tawahi area, in protest against the deterioration of basic services and continued power outages, chanting slogans against the authorities of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), local sources reported.
The protesters obstructed the passage of cars to Al-Tawahi by placing a large amount of stones next to the burning tires, the sources added.
Power outages have increased in all neighbourhoods of the coalition-controlled city of Aden.
According to Aden electricity sector sources, the hours of power outages increased from four to five hours per day, and the operating hours decreased to two hours per day.
The source pointed out that the energy companies are now threatening to increase the hours of interruption to 6 hours if the debt that the government owes them is not paid before the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha.
