Ethiopian diaspora to hold rallies in Washington DC against US meddling, Saudi abuses

Ethiopians living abroad called for a march on Washington, DC to be held on Monday July 26, 2021 in order to oppose the pressure by the US Administration on Ethiopia, as well as the inhuman treatment of Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia.

Ethiopian Global Youth Group founder Binyam Getachew told Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) that the demonstration will be held in front of the US State Department in Washington and the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Washington DC.

The rally is aimed at denouncing US interference in the internal affairs of Ethiopia and calling on the government of Saudi Arabia to stop their callous treatment of Ethiopian migrants in the country.

Ethiopians and foreigners of Ethiopian origin living in different states and cities of USA will take part in the rally, Binyam Getachev said.

“All citizens should stand up for the voiceless suffering in Saudi Arabia, as the situation requires urgent solution,” he added.

The Peace and Unity Taskforce Ethiopia in Washington DC Coordinator, Tasew Melakehiwot, said that letters will also be be handed over to officials of the US State Department and the Embassy of Saudi Arabia.

The United States has been putting increasing pressure on the Ethiopian government of Prime Minister and Nobel Peace Prize winner Abiy Ahmed Ali, following violent tensions in the Tigray province. Critics say that the US policy is derived from geostrategic interests in balkanising and controlling the strategically crucial region of East Africa.
