Iraqi military helicopter crashes in north of the country

The Iraqi Security Media Cell announced on Thursday that a helicopter had crashed near Amerli, resulting in the death of all its crew.

“The crew of a Mi-17 helicopter was killed in a crash of the helicopter  near Amerli district, at 2:45 o’clock, while they were conducting a combat mission,” the cell said in a statement.

“The helicopter had aboard Colonel Pilot Osama Tariq Abdul Obaid, Major Pilot Ali Fadel Ghadban, Deputy Officer Louay Hatem Farhan, Deputy Officer Atheer Fayez Ibrahim, Deputy Officer Wissam Ali Sfeih,” the statement read.

The cell did not disclose whether the crash was due to a technical malfunction or due to an attack.
