A leaked document from the Saudi Anti-Corruption Authority on Sunday revealed the involvement of Hadi’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism , Muammar Mutaher Al-Eryani, in the smuggling of rare Yemeni antiquities to European countries.
According to the document seen by Hodhod Yemen News Agency, British police arrested Saudi smugglers in London, who turned out to be members of an international smuggling network run by Muammar al-Aryani.
The document explained that al-Aryani’s network has been smuggling antiquities from Yemen through Saudi Arabia and selling them in the black markets in Central Europe for years.
According to the document, a large number of these antiquities were seized inside an abandoned building near the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
It noted that investigations are still underway, and it is expected that senior figures in the Hadi puppet government and even princes of the Saudi royal family are involved in the smuggling ring.
In a report earlier this year, UNESCO confirmed the smuggling of more than a million artifacts from Yemen during the war, which has been waged by a Saudi-led military coalition since 2015.
