Russia “not in a hurry” to recognise new Taliban-led Afghan government

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov has on Monday said Moscow is not in a hurry  to recognise the new leadership in Afghanistan, and does not immediately plan to remove the Taliban from its terror list.

“We do not intend to rush to exclude the Taliban movement from the Russian list of terrorist organisations, or to recognise the new Afghan authorities,” news agency Sputnik quoted Oleg Syromolotov as saying.

“We will focus on the practical steps of the new Afghan authorities and the relevant decision of the UN Security Council,” he added.

Russia has been involved in negotiations with the Taliban movement since their takeover of Afghanistan.
