Red Cross demands access to detainees in illegal UAE-run prisons in Aden

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has called on the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) to allow it to visit detainees in the STC-run illegal prisons in the city of Aden.

This came during the meeting of the head the ICRC office in Aden, Beatrice Oxley, with STC leading member Ahmed bin Brik on Wednesday, according to informed sources.

Oxley asked to visit detainees in the STC prisons in order to see if the detention standards comply with the requirements of international law.

This comes days after a human rights association called for the ICRC to visit detainees in the STC prisons, who are subjected to various types of torture and violations.
