The Yemeni army forces and the Popular Committees on Monday has achieved new major military victories on the fronts northwest of Ma’rib city, after violent confrontations with Saudi-led coalition forces and al-Qaeda members.
A tribal source in Ma’rib said that the Yemeni army forces and the Popular Committees managed during the past hours to clear large areas of the northwestern outskirts of the city, including strategic sites overlooking the city’s government complex.
Despite the intensity of coalition’s air raids on Sunday, Yemeni forces advanced towards the eastern hill of That al-Raa, towards al-Dahla area and the western areas of the government complex.
According to the tribal source, al-Qaeda terrorist elements lost all their positions in That Al-Raa and al-Moqahwi hill, one of the most important strategic sites, and withdrew under the pressure of the fire of Yemeni forces, retreating towards the government complex itself.
The battles are at present practically taking place in the vicinity of the western areas overlooking the government complex in the city of Ma’rib itself.
