Once again, World Food Program caught sending dangerously infected food to Yemen

The General Department of Plant Protection at the Yemeni Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, represented by the plant quarantine station team in the port of Hodeidah, has seized 5,493 tons of green and dry peas infected with warehouse pests that were delivered by the World Food Program (WFP).

The Director of Plant Protection Department, Engineer Hilal al-Jashari, said that “It was verified that the shipment was infected with warehouse pests in its different phases and in proportions that exceeded what is permissible under the Quarantine Law.”

Al-Jashari confirmed that this shipment, which the WFP seeks to bring into Yemen as food aid, has been rejected and would be returned to the country of origin from which it arrived, after completing the legal procedures.

It is noteworthy that this shipment is the second one that was seized within two months. During the last period, a shipment of infected peas belonging to the WFP, weighing 1,768 tons, was seized at the Quarantine station in Hodeidah, coming from Ukraine.
