Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said that the United Nations is “unable to solve any problem in the world.”
“The United Nations today cannot solve any problem in the world, it cannot take measures in any case, nor can it prevent any armed clash,” Çavuşoğlu said, speaking at a tourism event in Turkey’s western state of Ayden.
He criticised the voting mechanism in the Security Council and the veto right of permanent members, saying: “It must change. Little by little, the United Nations will be lost, as was the fate of the League of Nations.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly criticised UN mechanisms, particularly the work of the UN Security Council, of which the permanent members, the United States, Russia, China, France and Great Britain, have veto power to block any resolutions.
