The US State Department has announced the official transfer of the political powers of so-called president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi to his Prime Minister, Maeen Abdul-Malik Saeed.
The State Department gave the green light to Maeen Abdul-Malik Saeed to officially begin exercising the powers of President Hadi and Deputy President.
This came in a statement by the US State Department, commenting on the meetings held in Aden between US Envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking and Maeen Abdul-Malik Saeed.
The statement indicated that Lenderking directed Saeed to enhance coordination with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council and mercenary leader Tariq Afash, in clear violation of Hadi’s orders.
The US claims that its goal is to “reform the Hadi government” in order to face the next phase in the conflict in case the city of Ma’rib falls to the forces of the National Salvation Government in Sana’a.
